MALDEN, MA – An entertaining match between Mystic River and Kinsale RFC played before 100 or so spectators on a sunny, warm late afternoon/early evening.
Spectators were treated to a bag pipe/band introduction, presentation by both team’s presidents, short exchange by Malden and Melrose’s mayors and the assistant mayor of Kinsale.
The decision was made to play four 20 minute quarters allowing for water breaks so both sides would not succumb to the heat. What was supposed to be a friendly match, quickly turned into a fierce competition.
Kinsale moved ahead 10-0 but after a few breaks, Mystic moved ahead 21-13 at half-time on three converted tries.
The second half was all Mystic River, running in four more tries and three conversions to one converted try by Kinsale.
