Mystic River Rugby Club Wins USA Rugby D1 National Championship

MALDEN, MA – Mystic River Rugby Club, hailing from Pine Banks Park in Malden, MA, claimed the 2016 USA Rugby Division 1 National Championship, the club’s first ever national title in its 42 year history. The team beat the Austin Blacks of Austin, TX by a score of 45-33 at Infinity Park in Glendale, CO on Saturday evening.

GLENDALE, CO – The Mystics managed to stick out the full 80 minutes against the Austin Blacks in a back and forth contest that was up for grabs until the final minutes of the game. The final score was 45-33 to the Mystics, but the match was an incredibly close contest until the Mystics scored in the dying minutes to put them out of Austin reach. Mystic River are D1 National Champions!

Glendale, CO – The Mystics fought back from a 18-26 half time deficit to claim the D1 National Championship against the Austin Blacks with a final score of 45-33. We will have a full match report shortly, but are still processing the fact that the Mystics have claimed the title with a huge second half performance!

Mystics End Playoff Run On High Note

AUSTIN, TX – The Mystics defeated the defending national semifinalist Austin Blacks on Day 2 of the National Sweet 16 Tournament.  Though Saturday’s loss knocked them out of the finals, the Mystics finished with pride as Sean Burgess, Adnan Kawuma and Brendan Waight each touched down a try, with Derrick Roma converting one to make the final score 17-12. Thus ended a stellar season for the Mystics, with a combined record of 12-3 during the regular and post-season, outscoring their opponents 447-213.
