Mystics Open Spring Season

PINE BANKS – Mystic River opened their Spring Season against New Haven in a rematch of last fall’s playoff game. In that match up, New Haven topped the Mystics 23-12. This time, the two clubs fought to a 19-19 stale mate at the final whistle.

Playoffs: Mystics Place 4th in NRU

NEWPORT, RI – Day two of the NRU seeding tournament saw only slightly better conditions as the Mystics prepared for their match against New Haven.

New Haven had a bone to pick with the Mystic River who beat them in the final match of the regular season.

Despite their best efforts and tries from forwards Bill Dow and Peter Waswa, the Mystics fell to New Haven 12-23. The loss gives Mystic River the fourth place seed going into the next round of the playoffs.

Playoffs: Mystics Fall to Old Blue 21-0

NEWPORT, RI – As the fog rolled in off Narragansett Bay, the Mystic River Rugby Club took on METNY’s top seeded Old Blue RFC in round one of the NRU playoff seeding tournament.

However, it was a much different New York side than the Mystics faced in last year’s tournament where the Mystics sailed to an easy 61-3 victory.

This time around. Old Blue was ready, scoring three converted and blanking the Mystics 21-nil. A shutout win by NERFU rival, the Boston Irish Wolfhounds, will have the Mystics going head to head against New Haven to battle for third place in the NRU.
