NRU Playoffs: Mystics Defeat Morris 64-5

PINE BANKS – Despite losing two starters due to red card suspensions following last week’s match against the ‘Hounds, and another two off playing with the USA Eagles and Tomahawks, Mystic River dominated the visiting METNY #4 seed Morris on a rainy day that saw 10 tries (7 converted) for the Mystics.

The rain played a huge factor in what began as a sloppy match for both teams in the early minutes. Morris was able to capitalize with a run through the Mystic defense and take an early 5-0 lead.

But that would do it for the visitors as the Mystics grew accustomed to nature’s onslaught and rallied  with 10 unanswered tries of their own, three coming from team captain (and Man of the Match) Jamie Green for an impressive 64-5 win.

Elsewhere in the Northeast, Old Blue, New Haven and New York beat their opponents, advancing to the NRU Championships next week in New York.

Card-Plagued Game Ends New England Regular Season

The Boston Irish Wolfhounds and some very colorful pieces of paper denied Mystic River an undefeated run through the New England DI club league, but the damage wrought by the loss won’t be nearly as strong as the damage wrought by potential disciplinary action.
