Mystics Defeat Army 21-20

WEST POINT, NY – Mystic River started off their Spring season with a 21-20 win against Army, who has stood their ground against Super League squads, tying NYAC last Fall and beating the Boston Irish Wolfhounds earlier this month.

Joe Shurmaitis tallied two tries for the Mystics and USA 7s prospect Dimitri Efthimiou added a third with Pat Doherty slotting 3 for 3 from the tee.

The Mystic River Second XV lost a close one to Syracuse 14-15.

Efthimiou Headed to Suva 7s with Eagles

LABASA, Fiji – The USA joins a start-studded lineup of teams for the Digicel Suva 7s, including Fiji Barbarians, Papua New Guinea (coached by Fijian 7s legend Waisele Serevi), Canada, Western Force of Australia, Fijian Army, Fijian Police, Manawatu of New Zealand, Samoa Barbarians, and Tonga. Dimitri Efthimiou has been named as one of the 15 players invited to represent the United States at this tournament.

Efthimiou Invited to Mar del Plata 7s

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina – A squad of ten players representing the Belmont Shore club will enter Argentina’s Mar del Plata 7s in a trip that will serve also to provide USA 7s head coach with a chance to evaluate players he is interested in.

Dimitri Efthimiou is one of the six non Belmont Shore players invited to participate.

NRU Playoffs: Mystics Take 2nd Place in NRU

NEW YORK, NY – In the final day of the D1 NRU Championship series, Mystic River fell to Old Blue in the Finals. With Old Blue holding onto a comfortable lead at halftime, the Mystics would not go down quietly as Adnan Kawuma and Joe Shurmaitis narrowed the margin for a final score of 33-15.

The Mystics finished second in the Northeast with an overall record of 8-2 and have secured home field advantage this Spring against the MARFU #3 seed (TBD).
