This weekend saw the Mystics put on some great rugby all over the country on their way to bringing home three trophies.
The U19 Gulls participated in the biggest 7s tournament in the US in Milwaukee, WI, and claimed the high school division at the Lake Front 7s. Huge congratulations are due to all the players and coaches for winning such a prestigious tournament that far from home. Huge thanks are also due to the three parent chaperones for their support!
The premier Mystic 7s squad then won their first 7s qualifying tournament of the summer at the Hell Gate 7s in New York, NY. The boys finally got one over Old Blue in the semi-finals before blanking NYAC 24-0 on their way to the trophy. The Mystics now sit 3 points behind Old Blue in the qualifying race, and 5 points ahead of NYAC, so they will be looking for another victory at the Saratoga 7s this weekend to seal their berth to the 7s Nationals in August.
The second Mystic qualifying squad also showed some grit at the Hell Gate 7s, but fell just short in the Bowl Final.
The Mystic NERFU 7s squad also fought their way into the Cup Final at the Eric White 7s in Springfield, MA, but lost a tight match to the Wolfhounds.
Not to be outdone by their 7s compatriots, the Mystic 10s squad claimed a second consecutive cup championship at the New England 10s in Acton, MA on Sunday. The U19 Gulls also fielded a 10s squad, but lost momentum after some gutsy play early in the day.
Congratulations to all the Mystics who contributed to this weekend’s successes! And a huge thank you to all the players and supporters who keep pushing the Mystics to new heights!
