Mystic Nation,
It is with a heavy heart we share the unfortunate news that Bobby Engel, an Original member of Mystic River Rugby Club, passed away on 5/1/2021. The following is a note that Bobby’s family sent over to another one of our Original Mystics.
“My heart breaks as I write this. After a long struggle with Parkinson’s and several strokes, Bobby passed away yesterday. He was 84. He was loved and left a big footprint on this earth.
Many of you sent emails, letters or notes with stories, thoughts or memories of Bobby. They are amazing and beautiful. I read them all to Bobby and will always treasure them. I will try to share some of them with you in the future.
To honor and celebrate his life, I will be sitting Shiva at my home for the next week. As you do not live nearby, I will not be expecting you to drop in, but perhaps we can visit by phone! No flowers please, however donations in his memory to a charity of your choice would be a nice tribute.
The plan at the moment is to bury Bobby’s ashes in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY on Saturday, June 5th, with a luncheon to follow. Please do not feel compelled to travel to NY for the funeral – but of course, anyone is welcome. More details to follow at a later date.
Please share this information with anyone you think might want to know.
Few lived life larger than Bobby. He will be sorely missed.
Joan”
