MALDEN, MA – After two hard-fought losses, the Mystics knew that they needed to produce the goods against Middlesex to come away with the win. However, the team couldn’t quite find any fluidity in the first half, and were kept somewhat on the back foot by a structured Middlesex team. Despite things not quite clicking for the Mystics, they still managed to take a slim 12-10 lead into half time.
Things started to go more the Mystics’ way in the second half, and the boys started to take advantage of their opportunities and opened up a much larger gap against a competitive, never-say-die Middlesex team. With four second half tries, the Mystics were just too much for Middlesex and pulled away to a 38-17 bonus point victory and the team’s first league win.
The win came at a good time for the Mystics, as this coming weekend is a bye ahead of the October 5th derby against Boston. The boys still have a lot of work to do ahead of the Boston match, and will need to take full advantage of the extra week before kicking off the remainder of the fall season. In the meantime, the Old Boys will need to dust off their boots and decide whether any pre-match exercise is actually necessary, as they will also be kicking off their fall season against Boston in two weeks.
