NEWPORT, RI – In their inaugural season of entering a premier 7s qualifier team, Mystic River Rugby Club has earned a spot in the National Sweet 16 playoffs. Entering the NRU playoffs as the #5 seed, the Mystics were able to advance to the semi-final with wins over Long Island 35-17 and Boston B 56-0. The Mystics led perennial contender Boston 10-0 at half but suffered a collapse of play in the second period allowing three tries to lose 17-21. In the all important consolation final against NYAC II to determine who goes on to the national playoffs, the Mystics found themselves trailing early but rallied behind the strong play of Adnan Kawuma, Trevor McKenzie and captain Dimitri Efthimiou to secure a trip to San Francisco with a 35-5 victory.
